71’s FF French Journo Lévy Meets PM

DHAKA: Bangladesh has become the model of world’s most modern and democratic country, said renowned French journalist Bernard-Henri Lévy who had took part in the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

The journalist termed Bangladesh liberation war period the best chapter in his life.

Lévy came up with the assertion in a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Gono Bhaban, official residence of the premier, on Saturday.

The Premier welcomed heartiest this special friend of Bangladesh.

Henri Lévy took part at the Liberation War of Bangladesh on behalf of International Brigade comprising western intellectuals, called by Andrew Marlboro.

He also, worked at the Ministry of Finance and Planning under Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, after the independence of Bangladesh.

“It is unprecedented to reform a war-torn country in just three and a half years, what Bangabandhu did” Bernard-Henri Lévy expressed to the Prime Minister during conversation.

Mentioning ‘Bangabandhu, one of the greatest freedom fighters in the history of the world’ the French Journalist said that Sheikh Mujib’s contribution is immortal.

At that time, Sheikh Hasina told Henri Lévy that to make Bangabandhu’s dream true by developing Bangladesh as free of hunger and poverty, is her prime responsibility.

M Mahbubul Hoque Shakil, Special Assistant to the PM, briefed the press after the meeting.

He said that this special friend of Bangladesh, Bernard-Henri Lévy, was emotional while recalling those days and memories of Sheikh Jamal, younger brother of PM.

French Ambassador to Bangladesh Michel Trinquier, PM’s Principal Secretary Abdus Sobhan Shikder and Ambassador-at-Large Zia Uddin were also present at that moment.
