Car kills freedom fighter in city

DHAKA: A freedom fighter was run over by a private car in capital’s Tejgaon industrial area (I/A) on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Afzal Khan, 58, resided at Tegaon Staff Quarters.

Tejgaon I/A Sub-Inspector Habibur Rahman said a running car hit Afzal on Nabisco-Agrani Bank road while he was crossing road in the area, leaving him critically injured.

He was rushed to Mohakhali Metro Hospital and referred to National Institute of Traumatology Orthopedics and Rehabilitation (NITOR) (Pangu Hospital) then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as condition deteriorated.

On-duty doctor of DMCH pronounced him dead at 12:10pm.

On information, Afzal’s son M Selim came to the hospital and identified the body.

Police seized the car and its driver in this connection.
