Regent’s plane grounded, inspection Wednesday

DHAKA: The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) on Tuesday made an aircraft of Regent Airways grounded that had been flying with technical fault for several days.

The Dash-8 had been taking flights off with cabin pressurization problem for several days. Passengers have to suffer huge pain for the problems in their ears.

CAAB sources said the authority is set to carry out an inspection on the aircraft Dash-8 on Wednesday followed by preparing a report in this regard and fate of the airplane will be decided then.

It took the last flight off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka to Chittagong at 11:20am on Tuesday, but failed to fly due to technical fault and landed at the airport. Some 30 passengers at the flight narrowly escaped deaths.

Following the accident, the CAAB made the aircraft grounded on Tuesday noon.

The problem got worsens when it took off the return flight from Sylhet on Saturday. Passengers felt unbearable pain in ear (hearing), some were about to loss consciousness;   amid these nuisance, the plane landed at Dhaka.

The airways authorities did not fix the fault of the Dash-8 rather they moved for another flight on Sunday. The airplane made a flight to Kolkata from the Shahjalal Airport at 11:00am of the day.

The passengers began feeling unbearable pain in ears that made them furious and the pilot landed the aircraft on the runways in face of the passengers’ rage some 10 minutes after it took off.

All fight of the airways, scheduled to fly after Tuesday afternoon, were cancelled, causing immense sufferings to the several hundreds passenger on domestic routes.

Regent Airways used to run some 9/10 domestic flights by only two Dash-8 aircrafts. Of them, a Dash-8 C remained grounded for checking for two months and 4/5 flights were being maintained by another aircraft, which was also become grounded on Tuesday.

On the other hand, the airways’ Singapore flight of Boeing 737 plane returned from the Myanmar border due to ineffective Traffic Collision Avoidance System, bringing a schedule collapse in its international route.

When contacted, Regent Airways’ chief executive officer Dr MA Momem told banglanews “The aircraft (Dash-8) remained grounded and its main problem will be identified after carrying out the inspection on Wednesday.”
