US budget to empower BD youth

NEW YORK: The USA decided to spend a large amount of money to empowering the youth and the growth of the ‘Sushil Samaj (Noted Citizens)’ of Bangladesh.

US Department of State and other bureaus related to democracy and human rights affairs asked for project proposals or agendas from non-government organizations in this connection.

The country will spend US $600,000 in two different projects, of which $300,000 for empowering the youth and rest for the Sushil Samaj.

The matter was revealed through a press note, from the Department of State on Wednesday, which asked for Project Proposals, Conceptual Papers and Project Management with the view to ‘Increase peaceful partnership of citizens in Bangladesh’.

Bureaus asked for combined initiatives to empowering the Sushil Samaj and organizations, to ensure accountability and to increase the ability of observing in a wider scope, press note says.

The note explained that the project was adopted to increase the leadership quality of the youth to take the community forward in various issues related to democracy and human rights in Bangladesh and to increase the ability of civil society in arranging rallies.

Age limit of the youth, who have to be creative, was fixed from 18 to 30 years. Projects with 15-month duration will be considered most.

Those who are interested to join in the projects were asked to visit www.grantsolutions.gov or www.grants.gov sites for a user name and password.

Those who will apply before 11:59am of May 14 will be eligible, it added.
