Advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, today said that attempts are being made to bring back the Awami League (AL) through conspiracies to delay the upcoming national election.
“Many of those who demanded elections in December are now conspiring to postpone them. They are trying to rehabilitate the Awami League,” he said.
The adviser made the remarks while addressing an orientation programme for newly-appointed officers and employees of the Palli Daridro Bimochon Foundation (PDBF) at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in Dhaka, according to a press release.
He said that those working to delay the polls are undermining their own interests.
Asif Mahmud further said that while it has long been a practice in Bangladesh for ruling parties to appoint people from their own ranks to different organisations, the current effort is to ensure appointments based on transparency rather than political affiliation.
