RHD engineer gets 7-yr jail for corruption

DHAKA: A Dhaka court awarded Abdul Malek, a superintendent engineer of Roads and Highways department, seven years jail for corruption.

Dhaka metropolitan session judge Zahurul Haque on Wednesday passed this verdict.

The court in the same case acquitted Malek’s wife Ambia Khatun.

 The order was readout in front of them.

The court also fined TK one lakh to the convict, in default, he has to face one more year jail.

Earlier on June 5 in 2006, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case with Dhanmondi Thana against Malek for earning wealth illegally between 1974 and 2006.

The assets include-- FDR of TK 3.01 lakh, five flats in city’s Gulshan and Dhanmondi areas and a five-story building in city’s Pallabi area.
