The Election Commission (EC) has described as unfortunate the clash between BNP leader Rumin Farhana and activists of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) during a hearing on parliamentary constituency boundaries, saying police have been asked to take necessary action.
EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed made the remarks on Wednesday (August 27) at a press briefing held at the media centre of the EC building.
Akhtar in response to a question said, “The incident happened is very undesirable. It should not have happened. It is a regrettable incident for us and for everyone.”
When asked about why no action was taken against those involved, he said, “This incident is not directly related to the Election Commission. If you and I were to push each other outside for some reason, the organisation cannot be held responsible for that. We have filed a general diary with the police, assigning them the responsibility. We told the police to take the necessary steps.”
