Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus formally inaugurated an international dialogue on the Rohingya crisis in Cox’s Bazar on Monday (August 25), marking a key event leading to global discussions.
Titled “Stakeholders’ Dialogue: Takeaways to the High-Level Conference on the Rohingya Situation”, the three-day event began Sunday at Hotel Bay Watch.
The dialogue brings together diplomats, international experts, academics from various countries, global organisations, and representatives of the Rohingya community.
Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam stated that the dialogue serves as a preparatory step for the high-level meeting scheduled for September in New York.
He highlighted the significance of Rohingya refugees' direct participation, noting that they will have the opportunity to express their hopes, frustrations, and expectations for the future.
He said these views would be reflected in the discussions at the upcoming UN conference on September 30.
Key agenda items include ensuring continued humanitarian assistance, maintaining global visibility of the Rohingya crisis, and identifying a pathway for safe, voluntary, and dignified repatriation.
The dialogue will conclude on Tuesday.
