Bangladesh’s Meteorological Department today (Aug 21) advised all seaports to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3 as monsoon activity over the Bay of Bengal intensifies, raising the risk of squally weather along coastal areas.
Meteorologist Kh. Hafizur Rahman said that active monsoon conditions have generated deep convective clouds over the north Bay.
As a result, strong gusty or squally winds may sweep across the north Bay, Bangladesh’s coastal regions, and adjoining seaports, he added.
The advisory instructs the country’s four major seaports — Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra — to display signal No. 3.
Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the north Bay have also been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
