2 sisters succumb to burn injuries

GOPALGANJ: Two siblings, who sustained burn injures after being torched by ex-husband of a sister, died on way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Friday night.

The deceased were identified as Kulsum Begum, 18, and Swarna, 6, daughters of Altaf Mollah of Tungipara upazila of the district.

Local sources said Kulsum and Swarna were burnt as Kulsum’s divorced husband Mandar Mollah set afire to three sisters by pouring petrol while they were sleeping, leaving them injured critically.

The injured were rushed to Gopalganj General Hospital and then they succumbed to their injuries on the way to burn unit of the DMCH.

Deceased’s cousin Sathi also received burn injuries and she is undergoing treatment at Gopalganj General Hospital.

The bodies were sent to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

A case was filed against accused Mandar Mollah in this connection.

Officer-in-Charge of Tungipara Police Station Munirul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
