India pushes 20 more into Bangladesh

The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has once again pushed 20 individual—among them women and children—into Bangladesh through the Masudpur border in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.

The incident occurred around 4:45am on Wednesday (June 18), amid heavy rain, when BSF personnel from the 71 Battalion’s Sapur Camp used the weather as cover to carry out the push-in operation through the 4/5-1S international border pillar area.

Lieutenant Colonel Fahad Mahmud Rinku, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion 53, said that the group consisted of three men, seven women, and ten children.

They had entered India illegally from Kurigram nearly a decade ago and had been working at a brick kiln in Haryana, he added.

Indian police reportedly detained them in Haryana and later handed them over to the BSF, who then forcibly pushed them into Bangladesh.

BGB patrols immediately took the individuals into custody from the border area and arranged temporary shelter at a local camp, where their identities and information are being verified.

The group will be handed over to Shibganj police, said the BGB official.

Earlier, the BSF pushed in 17 people through the Gomostapur border on May 28 and eight more through the Chan Shikari border of Bholahat on June 3.
