Two children drowned in a pond at Bihair Paschimpara village under Natai North Union of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila on Thursday morning.

The deceased were identified as Mariam Akter, 3 and a half years old, daughter of Md Kawsar Mia of the same village, and Shahida Akhter, 2 and a half years old, daughter of Shahed Mia from Dhansar village. Shahida had come to visit her maternal grandparents' house in Bihair Paschimpara.

According to police through locals, the two children were playing in the yard in the morning. At one point, they went missing and later fell into a nearby pond without anyone noticing. After searching for them for some time, family members found their bodies in the pond and brought them out.

Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mozzafar Hossain confirmed the matter.

The bodies were handed over to the families as there were no complaints from them, he added.
