Muslims across Bangladesh are celebrating Eid-ul-Azha, on of biggest religious festival with solemnity and devotion, offering prayers and sacrificing animals in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son Hazrat Ismail (AS), an event that marks this holy festival.
The main Eid prayer was held at the National Eidgah in Dhaka at 7:30am on Saturday, attended by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus, government officials, diplomats, and people from all walks of life. President Mohammed Shahabuddin and the Chief Adviser sent greetings to the nation on this occasion.
Multiple congregations also took place at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, while the largest was held at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj at 9am. Special prayers were offered seeking peace, prosperity, and well-being for the nation and the Muslim ummah.
Following prayers, many visited graveyards to pray for their departed loved ones.
Security was tight across the country, with law enforcement ensuring peaceful celebrations. The government earlier declared a 10-day Eid holiday from 5 to 14 June.
Millions of people travelled to their hometowns, facing traffic jams, scorching heat, and complaints of excessive fares—up to three times the normal rate—causing widespread suffering.
Marking the festival, TV and radio channels are broadcasting special Eid programmes. Special meals are also being served at hospitals, jails, orphanages, and welfare centres.
