Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has said a “July Charter” will be announced next month with the agreement of all political parties.
In a nationwide address on Eid-ul-Azha on Friday (June 6), he said the Charter will be a united commitment to reforms proposed by the Reform Commission.
Referring to the earlier “July Declaration” by students involved in the July uprising, Dr Yunus said they had invited him to join. “I told them it would be stronger if it came from a united platform of political leaders, civil society and others,” he said.
He expressed hope that all parties would support the Charter, which will list agreed reform proposals. “By signing it, they will commit to implementing these reforms,” he said.
The government plans to start implementing the urgent reforms right away, while other areas will be addressed later by the elected government.
“There is no alternative to united and strong institutional reform efforts,” Dr Yunus said. “The July Charter will present a new united image of Bangladesh to the world.”
