Mahmudur’s indictment hearing July 13

DHAKA: A Dhaka court deferred its decision on framing defamation charges against Amar Desh Acting Editor Mahmudur Rahman in a case filed for publishing fabricated news. 

Special judge of Dhaka CMM court M Tasrujjaman Sunday fixed July 13 as the date for hearing following a time petition filed by the defense lawyer Joynul Abedin Mejbah.

After a hearing, the court fixed the date for the next hearing in the case. Jail authorities produced Mahmudur Rahman before the court on the day as per the court order.

In 2012, freedom fighter Major (Retd) Shah Alam Talukder filed the case at Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court against detained Mahmudur Rahman charging defamation and publishing false news in his newspaper.

According to the case statement, Mahmudur was accused of publishing false news allegedly defaming BNP founder, also former president Ziaur Rahman and Bangladesh Army.
