Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus today (June 1) emphasized the importance of reviving the lost glory of jute to help strengthen Bangladesh’s economy.
“Jute is an emotional issue for Bangladesh. We’ve produced natural fibers for generations,” he said while addressing the China-Bangladesh Conference on Investment and Trade at the BIDA office in Agargaon.
Yunus said that jute must move beyond its limited use in sacks and be embraced for its environmental benefits and broader applications.
He also called for a fresh start in jute innovation and remembered Dhaka’s historic Muslin as the most valuable fabric of its time.
Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Went and Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen were also present at the event.
