A Dhaka court has granted an eight-day remand for top-listed criminal Subrata Bain and a six-day remand for Molla Masud and three others in a case filed under the Arms Act with Hatirjheel Police Station.
The order was passed on Wednesday (May 28) by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain.
The other accused sent on six-day remand are Abu Russel Masud alias Molla Masud, Arafat Ibn Nasir alias Shooter Arafat, and M.A.S. Sharif.
Earlier in the day, Hatirjheel Police’s Sub-Inspector Riad Ahmed, the investigation officer, produced the accused before the court and sought a 10-day remand for each. Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki represented the state during the hearing, while defence lawyers sought cancellation of remand and bail. After hearing both sides, the court granted the remand.
Law enforcers on Tuesday (May 27), arrested Subrata Bain and Molla Masud during a raid around 5:15am at a house on Sonar Bangla Road in Kushtia following long-term intelligence surveillance and planning.
Later, around 7:00am, two more suspects were held during a coordinated raid in Dhaka’s Hatirjheel area. A special unit of the 46 Independent Infantry Brigade carried out the operation based on secret information.
The arrestees include two top criminals— Subrata Bain alias Fateh Ali and Abu Russel Masud alias Molla Masud—and their two accomplices, shooters Arafat and Sharif. During the operation, law enforcers recovered five foreign pistols, ten magazines, 53 rounds of bullets, and one satellite phone.
According to ISPR Director Lt Col Sami-ud-Doula Chowdhury, the gang was involved in killings, extortion, and sabotage across various parts of the country. Subrata Bain and Molla Masud are among the 23 most wanted criminals and are known as masterminds behind the notorious Seven Star gang.
