A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck Dhaka and parts of northeastern Bangladesh at 2:24 am today (May 28), causing brief panic but no reported casualties.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake's epicentre was near Moirang in Manipur, India, about 39km from Imphal, at a depth of 47km.
Residents in Dhaka, Sylhet, and nearby districts reported mild tremors. No significant damage or injuries have been reported so far.
