No rift with interim govt, national security first: Bangladesh Army

Bangladesh army said there is no conflict with the interim government, but its members will remain uncompromised when it comes to national interest.

Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said during a press briefing held at the Army Headquarters on Monday (May 26).

According to ISPR, it will not compromise on border security and will stay away from any activity that may threaten national security, including issues involving the sensitive corridor. It also made clear that the Bangladesh Army has no direct communication with the Arakan Army.

Regarding the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), the army said it is seriously monitoring the issue of 30,000 uniforms reportedly made for the armed group.

Over the past month, 1,979 KNF members have been arrested, bringing the total number of arrests to more than 14,000. Additionally, more than 4,000 drug traffickers have been detained, said Army.

The army emphasized that protecting the country’s sovereignty is its core duty and that it is operating strictly under government instructions.

Since August 5, the army has been working in coordination with all concerned to protect national interest, it added.

On the border situation, the army said push-in attempts are not acceptable. If necessary, the army will act based on government orders. Currently, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is actively handling the situation.

The army also issued a stern warning against any attempt to form mobs or create unrest. It said anyone involved in such actions will face strict measures.
