Body recovered from Ex-AL leader's building in Barguna

Members of police have recovered the body of a woman from a rented apartment owned by a former Awami League leader in Barguna town on Wednesday (May 21).

The deceased was identified as Sahida Akhter Rozi, 55, wife of Mostafa Khan of Noli Maitha village in Barguna Sadar upazila. She had been living in the flat for the last eight months.

The body was found in a bathroom on the second floor of a building owned by Mosharraf Hossain, former vice-president of Barguna district Awami League.

According to Rozi’s relatives, they could not contact her for the last three days. Her son and daughter-in-law broke the locked door with the help of the building caretaker and found her body.

Her husband, Mostafa Khan, said Rozi had recently sold land from her paternal property and started a business. Her mobile phone and gold ornaments were missing from the house, he claimed.

“We believe she was murdered and her belongings were looted,” he said, though the family has no clear idea who might be involved.

Barguna Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Md Zahurul Islam Hawlader said the body was sent to Barguna General Hospital morgue for post-mortem.

“We are taking the matter seriously and legal steps will be taken after proper investigation,” he added.
