A fire that broke out at the basement of Capital Siraj Center, a shopping mall in the capital’s Shantinagar area, has been brought under control.
However, a total of 18 people trapped inside the building were rescued.
The Fire Service received the fire alert at 6:45pm on Monday (May 5).
A total of nine fire-fighting units worked to control the blaze and managed to do so by 7:47pm.
Shahjahan Shikder, officer of the media cell at Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters, confirmed the fire started in the building’s basement. The cause of the fire will be known after investigation, he added.
Among the 18 rescued were nine women, seven men and two children.
