2 held over JMB snatching

MYMENSINGH: Detective police arrested two more persons on Thursday evening for thier suspected involvement in the snatching of three condemned militants from a prison van in Trishal on February 23.

The detainees -- Jitu and Al-Amin, gang members of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB)—were held with bomb making equipemnets from Munshirbhita area at Bhaluka upazila in the district.

DB police sources said acting on a tip off, DB police of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Mymensingh unit of DB police jointly counducted a special drive and nabbed them from the area with huge explosives.

The detainees admitted their involvement in killing police constable and snatching three convicted militants from prison van in Treeshal  earlier, police sources added.

Moreover, police seized a motorcycle from the militants.

Mymensingh DB Police Officer-in-Charge Majedur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

A group of JMB men attacked the prison van with guns and bombs, and snatched away three JMB convicts, killing one policeman and injuring two others on February 23.

Two of the freed convicts -- Rakibul Hasan Russel and Salahuddin Salehin alias Sunny --were on death row. The other -- Jahidul Islam alias Bomaru Mizan-- was serving life term.

Hours after the attack, Mizan was captured from Tangail and later killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police.
