Tk 681crore Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project underway

Dhaka: The government is implementing a project worth Tk 681 crore for improving the standard of university-level education that drew widespread criticisms for deteriorating standards.

Both the public and private universities, on conditions, could use grants under the scheme for quality development, chairman of Bangladesh University Grants Commission Prof Nazrul Islam told a seminar at SIRDAP auditorium Saturday.

The project is aimed at enhancing quality in teaching, studying and research and ensuring organizational management skills.

Jointly financed by the government and the World Bank, the project is being implemented by the UGC.

UGC members Prof Dr. Tajul Islam and Prof Dr. Ehsanul Haque and project director Ruk-nuddin Ahmed, at the meeting, discussed the nitty-gritty of the projects before journalists of print and electronic media.
