Outlaw leader killed in Chuadanga

CHUADANGA: A leader of banned outfit Purba Banglar Communist Party was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police under Damurhuda upazila of the district early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Kashem alias Mekur Kashem, 35, regional commander of the outlawed party, son of Juron Ali.

Sources said that acting on a tip off a police team raided in Ambagan area of Jagannathpur village at around 4:00am. Sensing the presence of police, the extremists hurled three powerful bombs aiming police.

In reply, police opened fire which triggered a gunfight, leaving Kashem dead on the spot.

Meanwhile, Damurhuda Model Thana Sub-Inspector Niaz Ali and Constable Khairul Islam became injured with bomb splinters.

Later, police recovered a gun, four-round bullets and four bombs from the spot.

Confirming the matter, Damurhuda Model Thana Officer-in-Charge Ahsan Habib told banglanews, “The outlaw leader was wanted in 12 cases including kidnapping, killings.”
