‘Killing in border reduced’

DHAKA: Director General (DG) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Major General Aziz Ahmed has commented that killing in the border areas has reduced remarkably.

Killing in the border is not expected and BGB has been working to bring it to nil.

He told these in a press conference at BGB headquarters on Sunday at 11-30 in the morning. Though BGB is working to make it nil, however BGB has some limitations, he said.

Despite all problems the BGB has been working to protect the border, checking smuggling and stopping the extra-judicial killings, he added.

For all these endeavors BGB has been relentlessly working including carrying on talks with BSF. It is good both for the interest of the two countries.

Major General Aziz said that Indian and Myanmar border forces have built roads in their own interests, have fenced borders with barbed wire. But we have no road and have no barbed wire fencing in all the places. For these reasons, we cannot check the cross border smuggling.

General Aziz informed that a project to construct 935-kilometers of road in the border areas have been taken up. After the completion of the road construction situation will improve.

He informed that our communication with Myanmar is not good. Due to their foreign policy we are not getting any response despite our sincerity.

The Rohingya problem is still unsolved due to that. However he claimed that BGB is successful in tackling Rohynga problem and we are keeping constant touch with them in Rohynga issue.

To rebuild BGB an up to date law under “Border Guard Bangladesh-2010” was framed in 2010. Had this law been passed more earlier then there could have not happen the incident like the BDR mutiny.

On militant escape and snatching of two militants recently, he informed that after the incident we alerted our forces on all frontiers including Trishal of Mymensingh. “We have also contacted the BSF so that the militants cannot escape,” he added.

In the news conference the DG put up the success and failures of BGB during last five years and added that BGB is a disciplined force. It is working for the government and the people and in time of need they are also working for the welfare of the people.

Regarding the judgment of Felani killing by BSF, he informed that for the review of the judgment there will be a meeting in next April. BGB will appeal to BSF for fair trial.
