JS goes into session Wednesday

DHAKA: The first session of the 10th parliament is set to begin on Wednesday evening.       

President M Abdul Hamid convened the session on January 13 as per Article 72 (1) of the constitution.

According the constitution, president will address the first session of the parliament. The cabinet has already approved the speech of the president.    

Sources said all the preparations have been taken for the first session of the new parliament.

A meeting at the parliament secretariat with senior secretary Ashraful Makbul has recently decided to take a number of steps on the occasion of the first session.

Besides, as per the rules, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the parliament will be elected in the first working day.  

The tenure of the 9th parliament ended on January 24 while the first session of that parliament sat on January 25 in 2009.
