MP Azim murder: Bangladeshis involved, says Home minister

Home Minister Asaduzzman Khan Kamal on Wednesday (May 22) said Bangladeshi people were involved in the murder of Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar in Kolkata.

Kamal said: “We cannot disclose all information now for the sake of the investigation.”

It is a planned murder and Bangladesh people were involved. Police are interrogating three suspects who have been arrested in this connection, he said.

The minister made the remarks while briefing the journalists this afternoon.

Home MInsiter said, “It is not a matter of the two states. Bangladesh mission is in touch with Kolkata police to know the details regarding the murder.”

Meanwhile, Mohammad Harun or Rashid, additional commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said that a group of local criminals has killed Azim.

While talking to the journalists at the DB office on Mintoo Road, Harun said had Azim begun his journey to India from the parliament complex area in Dhaka.

The daughter of the victim will lodge a case in this connection with Sher-e-Banglanagar Police Station, he said.  

“We have already brought some suspects to book but are not willing to disclose their names for the sake of investigation. We will be able to nab the rest of the people involved in the murder,” said the police official.

The body of Anwarul Azim was recovered from Kolkata eight days after his missing in India.

Anwarul Azim went to India through Darshana border on 12 May. He was in contact with the family till 14 May. However, there was no information regarding his whereabouts since 16 May.
