HC orders not to harass Salahuddin

DHAKA: The High Court Tuesday directed the government not to harass or arrest Salahuddin Ahmed, joint secretary general of BNP, without any legal procedure.

An HC bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Habibul Gani also issued a rule asking the government to explain why harassment to Salahuddin by raiding his house without any legal notice should not be declared ‘illegal’.

Officials concerned including home secretary, Inspector General of Police, deputy commissioner of detective branch and Cox’s Bazar Police Super were made respondents to the rule.

Advocate Joynul Abedin and Barrister Kamal Kaiser moved for the defendant in the court.

Salahuddin Ahmed filed a writ petition with the HC over police’s raiding his Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar residence on December 30 and 31 in 2013 without any notice.
