A total of 26 candidates have been elected uncontested in the absence of opposition candidate in the first phase of the upazila parishad elections.

The returning officers of the concerned upazila elections declared the names of the elected candidates on Tuesday (April 23).

Election Commission Additional Secretary Farhad Ahmed Khan said out of the 26 candidates, seven will be elected for the post of chairman, nine for the post of vice chairman and 10 for the post of female vice chairman.

The upazila elections are being held in four phases starting on 8 May.
