Bus driver, conductor beaten to death over extra fare

A driver and a conductor of a passenger bus were beaten to death allegedly by some passengers in Savar's Ashulia following an argument over extra fare on Monday. 

The deceased are Sohail Rana Babu, 26, from Tongi area of Gazipur and Hridoy, 30, from the Phulpur area of Mymensingh, driver and conductor of “Itihash Paribahan” respectively.

The incident took place in Ashulia EPZ area of Nabinagar-Chandra highway around 2:00 pm.

Police Inspector (Investigation) of Ashulia police station Md Masudur Rahman confirmed the matter.

He said police recovered the bodies of the deceased after receiving the information.

According to the police, the bus driver and conductor of Itishah Paribahan were attacked by passengers for asking for extra fare. They were seriously injured in the attack.

Being rescued, they were taken to Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital where they died under treatment around 7:30 pm.


Quoting the bus helper, police said that the bus leaving from Mirpur had an argument with the passengers over the extra fare. One of them threatened to beat them up.

Later, when the bus reached the EPZ area, some youths boarded the bus and started beating the driver and the contractor.

Meanwhile, the helper of the bus fled the scene.

Legal proceedings were ongoing in this incident, said the inspector.
