A total of 15 shops were gutted in a fire at Shapla Hawkers Market in the town on Sunday (April 7) morning.

The fire originated around 7:30 am at the hawkers market in Station Road area. Being informed, eight fire fighter units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after two hours.

Assistant Director of district Fire Service and Civil Defence Monjil Haque confirmed the matter.

He said causes behind the fire could not be known immediately. Businessmen estimated that the loss would be Tk one and a half crore.
