BCL 'assaults' journalist at Chittagong University

Chittagong University unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders and activists allegedly assaulted a journalist over 'sitting on a chair' on Monday (June 19).

The incident took place in front of a tea stall at University's Station area around 8 pm.

The victim Dost Mohammad, is a student of CU's Communication and Journalism Department, also member of CU Journalist Association, and a University correspondent of an online news portal.

According to sources, Dost Mohammad had an argument with BCL men over sitting on a chair at a tea stall. At that time, Chhatra League's legal affairs secretary Khaled Masud threw hot tea on Mohammad's face. Later, Mohammad was heavily tortured, even after providing his identity BCL men continuously kicked him in his chest and stomach.

However, Mohammad was seriously injured and is now admitted to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). 

Of 10-12 BCL men, two were identified as Khaled Masud, Legal Affairs Secretary and a student of the 2017-18 session of the Law Department, Arafat Raihan, Sub-Office Secretary of BCL CU unit and Student of 2018-19 Session of Department of Sociology. 

Khaled Masood in this regard said there was a small trouble over sitting in a chair. Later, there was shoving, but no one has beaten any journalist.

Chittagong University Proctor Dr. Mohammad Nurul Azim Sikder told Banglanews, "I immediately went to see the victim after receiving the news. We are taking this matter seriously. Still, we will take action according to the prevailing law based on the complaint as per the rules of the university."
