Woman in Chuadanga held with 20 gold bars

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a woman with 20 gold bars at Damurhuda in Chuadanga.

The arrestee Shahanara, 48, is the wife of late Abul Kashem of village Nastipur of Darshana.

She was arrested on Wednesday (May 24) around 1 pm from the border area of the upazila.

Director of Chuadanga-6 BGB Lieutenant Colonel Syed Mohammad Zahidur Rahman confirmed the matter.

He said on tip-off, gold was being smuggled from Bangladesh to India BGB team took position near Jora Koborsthan (twin graveyard) at Nastipur village.

However, Shahanara was suspected among the passengers in the auto-rickshaw. First, she was interrogated, where she refused of not having any illegal product. Later, a female BGB member searched Shahanara's body and recovered 20 gold bars weighing 2.341 kg in two packets wrapped with Scots tape, he said.

Zahidur Rahman said the estimated market value of the recovered gold bars is Tk 2.35 crore.

A case has been filed against the arrestee at Darshana police station and the process of submitting the gold bars to the Chuadanga Treasury office is under process, the official added.
