More than 50 shops were gutted in a fire at Thanchi market in Bandarban on Saturday morning (March 25).

The blaze originated around 8am. No casualties were reported.

Thanchi Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Muha Abul confirmed the matter.

Quoting locals, he said the fire broke out at the bazar this morning and soon engulfed the adjoining shops.

On information, two units of Fire Service, police and BGB with the help of local people doused the blaze after two hours of frantic efforts, he said.

The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately, he said.

According to businessmen, the extent of the damage is about 5-6 crore.
