Go to eye specialists, if you see no development: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today (Nov 26) suggested those, who don't see the development works of the government, to go to eye specialists.

Referring to the ongoing development works under the Awami League (AL) government, she said, "Bangladesh is moving ahead . . . None can stop this stride towards progress anyhow."

The premier was addressing the celebration ceremony of the civil works completion of the south tube of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel under Karnaphuli river in Chattogram.

She joined the function virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban.

Sheikh Hasina also urged the countrymen to contribute to the development of their own areas as the government is working for the overall progress of the country.

She said: "We are working for the development of the country. All of you (countrymen) should contribute to the development of your own areas."

"Our development work is not visible to many people. May be their eye sights are lost. If it is so, they can go to the ophthalmologists. We've established a very good eye institute. After getting treatment from there, they might see the development," she said.

If someone is blind even after having eyes, "then we have nothing to do," the prime minister added.

Mentioning that there are some people in the opposition who are blind despite having eyes, she said, "They pretend not to see. They can't do anything themselves. They can't do anything in the future, even can't give anything to the country."

With AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader in the chair, Bridges Division Secretary Md Monjur Hossain delivered the welcome address.

Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam and Chinese Ambassador Li Jiming also spoke, while Principal Secretary to the prime minister Dr Ahmad Kaikaus moderated the event.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, former Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem, Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury and Whip Shamsul Huq, among others, were present at the Chattogram end.
