3 to die, 5 get life for killing AL leader in Laxmipur

LAXMIPUR: A Laxmipur court on Thursday (Feb 6) sentenced three persons to death and five others to life term imprisonment for killing a leader of Awami League Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan in the district in 2014.

Md Shahenur, district and sessions judge of Laxmipur, pronounced the verdict this morning.

The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each.

The convicted persons are Kafil Uddin, abdur Rahman and Md Joynal.

The five convicts who get life imprisonment are: Md Julfiqar, Khorshed Alam, Yasin Arafat Rafi, Muktar and Md Shajahan.

Of them, only Kafil Uddin was present in court during the verdict, the rest remain fugitive.

According to case statement, victim Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, president of Charshahi Union Awami League of Sadar upazila, was slaughtered by the convicts on May 21, 2014.

Later, Anjuman Ara Begum, wife of the deceased filed a case with Sadar Police Station after four days of the murder.
