Khagrachhari man to die for burning wife to death

KHAGRACHHARI:  A man has been awarded death penalty for pouring Kerosene over his wife, which caused her death at Dighinala upazila of Khagrachari in 2009.

Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal as well as of District and Sessions Judge’s court Md. Alamgir Hasan on Wednesday (January 22) pronounced the verdict and also fined him Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.

According to case statement, the convict—Shah Alam poured Kerosene over his wife-Kuhinur at his house located at Rashik Nagar area under Dighinala in 2009, because he did not get dowry. Following 23 days of treatment, Kuhinur died. Later, Kuhinur’s younger brother Alam Miha filed a case over the death. The convict was arrested on June 10 of 2017 after being on the run for 8 years.

Public Prosecutor Advocate Bidhan Kanungo expressed satisfaction over the verdict.
