Destiny chairman, MD denied bail

DHAKA: The Appellate Division on Tuesday (Dec 17) rejected the bail petition of Destiny group managing director Rafiqul Amin and Destiny Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd Chairman Mohammad Hossain in a graft case.

A six-member Appellate Division bench, led by the Chief Justice, passed the order.

The court also directed the lower court to dispose the case quickly, the Anti-Corruption Commission's (ACC) lawyer Khurshid Alam confirmed.

Barrister Ajmalul Hossain Kiusi stood for the petitioner.

On July 31 in 2012, the ACC filed the cases under the Money Laundering Prevention Act against 22 top officials of Destiny for embezzling around Tk 35 billion after duping numerous clients through the Destiny Multipurpose Co-Operation (MLM) and Tree Plantation Project.

Amin and Hossain confessed to the crime before a magistrate in October, 2012. Both are now in jail.
