‘No reason of two ministers’ resignation’

DHAKA: There is no reason for resignation of two ministers even after the Supreme Court (SC) verdict over breaking oaths.

Law minister Anisul Huq made the observation while talking to journalists at secretariat in city on Wednesday (September 7).

On March 27, an eight-member SC bench, headed by the chief justice SK Sinha, convicted the food minister Qamrul Islam and liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Huq of contempt of court after refusing to accept their unconditional apologies.

The bench also fined TK 50,000 to each minister for their derogatory comments against the chief justice and the SC.

The full judgement, released on September 1, said the two ministers have violated their oaths.

Later on September 5, Advocate Yunus Ali Akand filed a writ petition against the ministers challenging holding their offices despite Appellate Division’s ruling of breaking oath.

Earlier on September 3, the advocate sent a legal notice to the two ministers to reply within 24-hour mentioning the reason of holding the offices despite breaking the oath.

Akand filed the writ as the ministers failed to reply within the given time.
