03 March 2012- Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed categorically said the directives of High Court did not hinder the freedom of the press as well as right to information. The law minister also claimed that the court only asked to publish objective news during any trial. “There is provision of awarding fine and punishment if anyone denies providing information to the journalists,” he said. The law minister came up with the observation while talking to journalists after a workshop held at Badruddoza auditorium of Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) in the district. banglanews24.com

04 March 2012- The High Court on Sunday summoned the officer-in-charge and sub-inspector of Magura Sadar Thana for their alleged involvement in torturing two youths in police custody. The court also asked OC Asaduzzaman and SI Nuruzzaman to appear before the court on March 12 to explain the allegation against them. An HC bench comprising of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Jahangir Hossain came up with the order after hearing on a writ petition. banglanews24.com

05 March 2012- A Bangladeshi cattle trader was beaten to death and two others were wounded by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) troops on Bhaigarh border under Birampur upazila early Monday. The deceased was identified as Abdul Jalil, 40, son of Mofiz Uddin of Monipur village of the upazila while wounded one is Golap Mia, 25, son of late Osi Uddin of south Daudpur village of the upazila and the identity of another one could not be known immediately. banglanews24.com

06 March 2012- The High Court Tuesday asked the registrar of Bangladesh Open University (BOU) to sue the persons, including three Professors of University of Dhaka, by Wednesday for their alleged involvement in distorting history in the textbook. The court also summoned the accused persons to appear before the court on March 12 to explain the matter. A hearing will be held in this regard on the day. 07 March 2012- The deposition of prosecution witnesses in war crimes related case against Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee will be held on March 18 as the witness could not appear before the tribunal on Wednesday. 08 March 2012- Two prisoners of Barisal jail died at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital prison cell. The deceased were identified as M Yousuf Ali Mia, son of M Lal Mia of Gazipur village under Amtoli upazila of Borguna district and M Kalu Khan, son of late M Paban Ali Khan of Kachipara village under Baufal upazila of Patuakhali district. banglanews24.com

09 March 2012- The local administration Friday imposed section 144 in Hajiganj upazila to avert an imminent clash between two rivals group of BNP as they convened separate programmes at the same venue and same time. “Apprehending disturbance of law and order, the local administration imposed section 144 to be in force from Friday 6am to Sunday 12am at Hajiganj Bazar and surrounding areas,” said an official source. banglanews24.com
