Qatar has announced it will host an urgent summit of Arab and Islamic countries on Sunday and Monday to coordinate a regional response following an Israeli airstrike targeting Hamas leaders in Doha.

The meeting is referred to in several news reports as an “emergency” gathering.

The airstrike took place on 9 September 2025 in Doha’s diplomatic quarter, striking buildings housing members of Hamas’s political bureau. Qatar strongly condemned the attack, calling it “cowardly” and a violation of international law and its sovereignty.

Reports indicate that five lower‑ranking Hamas members and one Qatari security officer were killed in the strike. At least some senior Hamas figures reportedly survived.

The attack has raised significant diplomatic tensions. Countries across the region and beyond have condemned the strike, including Qatar, which emphasized the risks to its role as a mediator.

The United Arab Emirates has joined in urging unified regional coordination following the incident.

Qatar is organizing an extraordinary Arab‑Islamic summit scheduled for 14–15 September 2025 in Doha, in response to the Israeli strike on Hamas officials inside its territory.

While many facts about the strike—including casualties and international condemnation—are well‑documented, details of the summit’s planned outcomes and attendance remain provisional.

The event signals increasing regional concern over Israel’s cross‑border actions and the potential implications for diplomatic and security arrangements in the Gulf and wider Muslim world.
