DHAKA: The launching ceremony of a semi-historical narrative ‘Dreams of Dhaka’, written by Towheed Feroze and published by Palok Publishers, was held at BRAC Centre Inn in city’s Mohakhali area on Tuesday.

The author of the book Towheed Feroze, its publisher Forkan Ahmed, litterateur Dr Mizanur Rahman Shelley, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Gibson, New Age Editor Nurul Kabir and Professor Selina Mohsin, among others, spoke at the ceremony, chaired by former Election Commissioner Brig Gen (Retd) M Sakhawat Hussain.

The speakers recalled their memories regarding Dhaka city as well as discussed on different aspects of the book.

After launching the book, Towheed Feroze told banglanews that the book upholds his days of 1970s and 80s in Dhaka city, which was not as much crowded as of present days.

“People use to come to see traffic-jam on New Elephant Road during the Eid festivals,” he said adding, “We had only Bangladesh Television programs to mention for entertainment.”

Recalling his memories, Feroze said, “I have seen the youth being inspired by the ideology of Che Guevara aiming to establish social justice in the country. Later, I have seen it gradually getting faded away to the capitalism.”

The ceremony was also attended by the envoys of several countries including the US, the UK, Russia, Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Myanmar and other dignitaries.

‘Dreams of Dhaka’, priced at Tk 250, it available at the book stores at New Market, Aziz Co-operative Market in Shahbagh, Dhaka University Book Store at TSC and Words N Pages in Gulshan.
