KHULNA: A clash between KUET students and transport workers Saturday at Fulbarigate in the district over ticket trickery halted traffic on the Dhaka-Jessore highway for an hour.

Sub-Inspector M Helal of Fulbarigate police camp in the city told banglanews that two students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) bought tickets to travel from Dhaka to Jessore. But they wanted to travel up to Khulna instead of Jessore.

“A supervisor of the bus of Shohagh Paribahan barred them from traveling up to Khulna. As a result, the students got angry with the supervisor,” he said.

The two students--Ahsanullah and Razibuzzaman--with the help of their mates vandalized a bus of the transport company. Traffic movement halted on the highway for an hour following the incident.

On information, police rushed to the spot and took the situation under control.

Police picked seven, including the two students. They are Refat Hossain Sarder, Rahmatul Alam Evan, Safayet Hossain Nayan, Enamul Haq and Mosaddek Hossain Sourav. They were taken to Khanjahan Ali thana.

Professor Dr Alamgir Hossain, Vice-chancellor of the engineering university, said, “We have solved the matter in a joint meeting with police, transport owners and workers’ leaders.”
