‘Nil Dal’ wins in DU syndicate polls

DHAKA UNIVERSITY (DU): Ruling Awami League-backed ‘Nil Dal’ won in the elections to the Dhaka University (DU) syndicate, the academic council and the finance committee, on Thursday.

The polls began at 9:00am and continued till 1:00pm at a stretch at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university, said Professor Dr Mohammad Kamal Uddin, DU Treasurer, also chief election commissioner.

They have won in four seats out of six. BNP-Jamaat-backed ‘Sada Dal’ won in other two seats.

Besides, the ‘Nil Dal’ also has won in one seat of Finance Committee and in six seats of Academic Council.

Professor Dr Mohammad Kamal Uddin announced the results of the elections in the afternoon.

The winners of Nil Dal are Dr ASM Maksud Kamal from Earth and Environmental Science faculty in Dean Category, Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed of Economics Department in Professor Category, Dr Chandra Nath Podder of Mathematics Department in Associate Professor Category and Mst Nilima Akhter of English Department in Assistant Professor Category.

The winners from Sada Dal are Sir PJ Hartog International Hall’s Provost Professor Lutfor Rahman in provost category and Afrin Chowdhury of Marketing Department in Lecturer category.

Besides, Professor Masudur Rahman of Nil Dal has been elected as teacher’s representative of Finance Committee.

Of the winners in Academic Council, Dr ZM Parvez Sajjad of Applied Physics in Professor category, Dr Mohammed Abdullahel Amin of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department and Dr Mahbub Ahsan Khan of The Institute of Education and Research (IER) in Assistant Professor category, Abul Kalam Lutful Kabir of the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Subodh Debnath of International Business and Touhidul Haque of Social Welfare and Research Institute in Lecturer category.

Winner in Dean Category Dr ASM Maksud Kamal from Earth and Environmental Science faculty thanked his fellow teachers for casting their vote in favour of the teachers who believe in the spirit of Liberation War.
