Speakers hail GPEU for courage, dedication

DHAKA: Speakers from different labour organizations & other Telecom appreciated Grameenphone Employees Union (GPEU), the pioneer of Trade Union movement in Private Corporate sector and for their courage and dedication.

They were addressing at a discussion titled “Union for Sustainable Corporate Growth”, organized on occasion of second anniversary of GPEU, at National Press Club in the capital on Saturday.  

GPEU is unionizing workers in their own organization and for their effort in organizing Trade union movement in Telecom & other sectors as well.

The speakers also addressed on the main challenge and obstacle in Trade union movement, non-cooperation from employers & government regularity bodies in processing trade union registration. 

To face these obstacles, speakers requested all to be united as there is no alternative of being in solidarity.

The discussion was addressed, among others, by GPEU president Fazlul Haque, general secretary Mia Masud, communication secretary Adeeba Zerin, executive member Ahmed Manzurud-Doula and president & secretary of GPIT Employees Union (GPITEU) Ibrahim Hossain & Md Shahin.

Guest speakers were AKM Mostafa Kamal, Education Secretary, Alonzo Suson, country director of US Solidarity Center, Syed Sultan Ahmmed, BD Institute of Labour Studies (BILS), Chowdhury Ashiqul Alam, secretary of Bangladesh Trade Union Sangha and Bangladesh Nowjan Sramik Federation, Shaymol Kumar Bhowmik, president of Bangladesh Krisak Songram Somittee, Advocate Salim Ahsan Khan, Babul Akter, president of Bangladesh Garment and Industrial Workers Federation and Kalpana Akter, president of Bangladesh Center for Workers Solidarity. 

Two years back GPEU was formed in protest of illegal and unlawful practice of management.
