A US trade delegation will arrive in Dhaka today (September 14) for a two-day visit to advance discussions on Bangladesh’s proposal to reduce reciprocal tariffs from 20% to 15%.
Brendan Lynch, US Assistant Trade Representative for South and Central Asia, will lead the three-member delegation. During the visit, they will meet Commerce Ministry officials, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain, and Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam.
Last month, US President Donald Trump had announced a 20% retaliatory tariff on Bangladesh, lower than the initially planned 35%. Dhaka is seeking a further reduction to boost exports.
According to the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR), total trade in goods and services between Bangladesh and the US reached an estimated $12.4 billion in 2024, up 3% from the previous year.
