DHAKA UNIVERSITY: Vice President (VP) candidate of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) Nurul Huq Nur was physically assaulted on the voting day.
He was hospitalized in an unconscious state.
Students who witnessed the incident that happened around 12pm Monday (Mar 11) told Banglanews that students of Rokeya Hall demanded a check of the ballot boxes at the polling center installed at the same hall.
The students said they saw six ballot boxes instead of fixed nine which weren’t even sealed.
VP Candidate BCL President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon, General Secretary (GS) candidates Golam Rabbani, Chhatra Dal leader Anisur Rahman Khandaker Anik and Quota Reformation movement leader VP candidate Nurul Huq Nur went to the place where the ballot boxes were kept.
Anik told the attendees that the boxes weren’t sealed.
At one stage, Nur was beaten up while he started to talk.
As the news spread, the students started demonstration demanding removal of Rokeya Hall Provost Prof Dr Zeenat Huda.
Voting in the polling center installed at Rokeya Hall was postponed amid the unrest.
Earlier, Kuwait Maitree Hall Provost Prof Dr Shabnam Jahan was withdrawn amid rigging allegations that as many as 1,000 precast ballots were found in the hall.
However, beginning from 8am, the balloting will continue till 2pm, without any break.
