DHAKA: Bangladesh is no more afraid of terrorists. Exactly an year after the attack on Holey Artisan Bakery, much water have flowed down Surma, Karnafuli, Padma, Shitalakhya and Buriganga rivers and all terrorist activities have been washed away by the timely steps of the security agencies.

Bangladesh has turned out to be a model in combating suicide attackers and terrorists, when it is a global phenomenon and for this kudos to the security forces for their role model in handling terrorism.

The peaceful country on July 1, 2016 witnessed the biggest attack of terrorists, when the Holey Artisan was captured. The terrorists had wanted to hit the headlines globally, so that their presence in Dhaka can create a global horror and tremor to achieve a rippling effect.

A blueprint was drawn to give the operation appear gruesome and for which blood thirsty murderers of Baguda, Shafikul Islam alias Ujjwal and Khairul Islam alias Payel were sent to Holey Artisan. Even meritorious students were also roped in the team of attackers, to make an impression that the meritorious students were also with the terrorists. Rohan Ibne Imtiaz was a student of BRAC University, Mir Sameh Mobaswer from Scholastica and Nibras Islam was a student of the Monash University-Malaysia. These suicide attackers on that fatal night had turned Holey Artisan into a horrendous living hell and some political parties like BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh were trying to make maximum gain out of it by making brownie points.

However, Bangladesh government led by prudent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina showed patience and immense mental strength in weeding out the terrorists. The army jawans, and policemen had risked their lives to ensure safety of the citizens. RAB (Rapid Action Battalion) team and those from Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit and the detectives made their best efforts to tackle the terrorists, to provide safety to the nation. Five patriots while doing the duty for the nation led down their lives to combat the terror attack. For it they will be ever remembered as martyrs by the nation.

Following that tainted episode, due to increased vigil the network of the terrorists in the country could be snapped. After Dhaka’s Kalyanpur and Rupnagar, the terrorist hubs in Narayangunj, Sylhet, Chittagong and Rajshahi were cracked. Even the trainers and those who were the brain behind the terror attacks were also eliminated

This time the Eid had been peaceful in Bangladesh and winning over the fear psychosis Sholakia Edgah Maidan was full to the brim during the gathering of Eid-ul-Fitr. Dinajpur had the biggest gathering in the sub-continent during the Eid.

In the past one year countries like France, Australia, UK and USA had been puzzled with rising terror attacks and the middle east being the target of IS, the list of victims had only multiplied. Our neighbor India too is in deep crisis due to Pakistan borne terror attacks; but at that time Bangladesh had been successful in controlling terror by nipping them in the bud and for it hats off to Bangladesh. Only Bangladesh is the sole nation in the globe which had been successfully thwarting terror threats and it is a record of its own.

So Bangladesh needs to play a more responsible role, as there is no place of contentment in combating terrorism. Again, there is every possibility for the terrorists to go underground, after being crumbled by the administration and regroup for fresh attacks.

Moreover, there is the presence of anti-national force Jamaat which is active in the country and abroad. This cash rich fundamentalist group can easily get involved in subversive activities and later shift the blame on IS.

So, the activism shown by CTTC unit so long has to be maintained, to keep terror activities at bay from Bangladesh.
