LALMONIRHAT: A man and his minor son were drowned while trying to take a dip in a pond at Kashiram village in Kaliganj upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon (May 28).

The deceased were identified as Dabian Rahman Totu, 38, son of one late Shukur Ali, hailed from the village and his son Nirab Hossain, 7.

Locals said the incident took place while Dabian, with his son, was taking a bath in a home-side pond in the afternoon. At some point, Dabian saw Nirab is fighting for breath while drowning in the middle of the pond. He dived to rescue him but instead drowned. 

Later, locals rescued Nirab to Kaliganj hospital where on-duty physician declared him dead. A team of fire service rescued Dabian’s body from the pond after conducting search.

Kaliganj police station sub-inspector (SI) Razu Ahmed confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
