 DTH service launched thru Bangabandhu satellite

DHAKA: Beximco Communications Limited has introduced the world-class DTH (Direct to Home) service first ever in the country.

'Akash’ will provide DTH service from Bangabandhu satellite-1 in Bangladesh, the 57th country of which its own satellites in the world.

The DTH service was officially inaugurated in a city hotel on Thursday (May 16).

Beximco Communications Limited officials said DTH is a top technology in the worldwide pay-TV industry. ‘Akash’ DTH is set to enter the market on Sunday with a total of 11o satellite television and 20 high definition channel connections with a promise to prove high quality sound and picture to entertainment seekers    

Akash’ DTH will charge only Tk 399 for their initial standard package, and customers will have to have a dish from the company. Under the package, existing features include Program Reminder, Future Program Listing and Parental Control.

Apart from this, Akash DTH will charge the Tk 6, 499 as one time connection fee. Connection components include the latest HD set top box, customer friendly and versatile remote control, heat and rain resistant Universal KU band dishes and other materials. 

Besides, free installation and one-month subscription will be available for a limited time. Akash will ensure full 24/7 call center service and professional installation and sales.

As the chief guest, information minister Dr Hasan Mahmoud inaugurated the services of Akash DTH. 

During this time, the minister said, the country went a step further in the path of digitization. Through this system, our streets will free from the wires here and there. Moreover, it is easier to get the government tax properly from the business of satellite channels connections under this system. 

“Besides, there will be enough cooperation in implementing the television broadcasting law”, he added.

The minister also said, “We are working to bring order in the television broadcasts. No other country can display ads on foreign channel broadcasts as per the advertising law. It can happen only in our country. Although advertising law had passed in 2006, it has not been implemented. In our country, foreign channels can broadcast without showing ads.

Akash DTHH will be available commercially in 20 districts of the country. 

The districts are Dhaka, Mymensingh, Tangail, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Manikganj, Comilla, Noakhali, Feni, Cox's Bazar, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Rangamati, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria and Sunamganj.

Also, the DTH will be available in other districts of the country from authorized retailers also, said Beximco Communications.

Commerce Minister Titu Munshi, Prime Minister's Private Industrial and Investment Advisor and Vice Chairman of Beximco Communications Salman F Rahman, Chairman of Beximco Communications Shayan F Rahman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) DS Faisal Haider, President of Bangladesh Cricket Board Nazmul Hasan Papon, former Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu were also present at the programme.
